St. Albert Protestant Separate School District No. 6
{ENT SIGNED BY BOARD AND TEACHERS ‘The board of the St. Albert Protestant Separate School District No. 6 and The Alberta Teachers’ Association signed an agreement at the school board offices on September 3, ending a three-year negot- fation of the teachers’ contract. Board chairman Roy Usher stated that the three-year agreenent provides for a two percent increase for 1962-63, a similar amount for 1963-64, and provides 1964-65 salaries comparable with those paid by the Edmonton Public School Board. The manner of transfer of the St, Albert teachers to the Edmonton Public School Board grid is similar to that used by other Alberta auburban school districts which have adopted the salary scales of neighboring cities. The achool board approved the terms of settlement at a special meeting held on Septeaber 1. The teachers concurred with the board's proposal at a meeting

‘The contract reflects joint ATA-school board policy of encouraging young teach- ers with minimum qualifications to im prove their university standing. Jack Bauman, chairaan of the teach salary negotiating committee, expressed satisfaction with the terms of settle: ment. "This has been a protracted and complex negotiation", said Mr. Bauman, “The teachers appreciate the responsib- ility which the board has demonstrated ini s difficult matter’

brief te placed on the noxt Zouncil agen da next Monday, September 14. Following are the highlights of the Mayor's recom mendations:
(a) eliminate the position of Administrative Officer and standard Mayor, Council 5 urer form of administration. Purther, there could be a sharp reduction in the aduinistrative and cle (bo) eliminate position of Town The pres sould be conducted by the # Fire Departnent. (sc) Contract out garbage removal possibly meter reading. It might worth considering looking into the poss: ibility of contracting out tt sever as (a) have all futu out by private development with acreage and frontage assessments set to recover development report and fina: sts to date plus future boundary road costs, oversize main costs, sewerage treatnent facility costs and water storage costs. These things are nothing more than nor- mal municipal government operations, I believe that because of the authority a Council has, there is absolutely no reason to have any more elaborate syst of Government than that which I have pi posed for a good number of years. Coun: il can have absolute control over the Mayor and Secretary~Treasurer by insist. that: (a) All expenditures made are part of well planned budget that has been pre- pared on the basis of sound managenent with a will to economize, and not pre- pared with the idea that because we are bigger this year all items must te more costiy. (b) Monthly reports on past month and plans for the next month are circulated to Council menbers well in advan meetings and these reports, if subject to expenditures, are related to the bud- get.
